A few days ago I answered a question from an American who was planning a trip to Europe. I know this is a statement rather than a question, but I neglected to mention at the time, which I should have done, that there is a rail pass called Inter Rail which allows you to travel by train in 30 countries. The youth pass for 1 month costs around 400 (about $800), which sounds like a lot until you realise that if you use it regularly you are likely to clock up $800 worth of travel in less than a week, let alone a month. For those with a slimmer budget, there are cheaper passes for shorter periods and also for just one country.
