Like any other machine, it depends on how the previous owner(s) took care of it. '04 Honda's for the most part will be reliable as long as it wasn't thrashed by some teenager. See if there are any maintenance records for the bike, and also listen closely to engine noise when they let you test ride it. If you're not satisfied with what you see, keep looking.
Hey bro you should shop around before you buy. Use eBay and Craigslist even your local gas station shopper. I live next to a military base and found one from a guy needing to sell his fast I ended up with a 2007 R6 mint with 1450 miles on it for $6500 and to think I was going to buy a new one. But I did a little quick research for you and it's looking to be on average $5500-6500
